 | 1786 Jay-Gardoqui negotiations over Mississippi angered southern states. |
 | *Here Jay was negotiating a deal with Spain willing to give up rights to the
Mississippi which were an essential trading route for the South, in order to increase
trade with Spain benefiting the North. Once news leaked out, Congress wisely terminated
the negotiations with Spain. |
 | 1786 Annapolis Convention suggested second meeting to revise the
Articles of Confederation. |
 | 1786 Shays Rebellion where armed farmers attempted to save their
properties from foreclosure frightened American leaders. |
