Welcome
to U.S. history!
 | 1783 Not everyone agreed with the actions of the new government. There
was the Newbourgh Conspiracy of 1783. No one seams to knows the full story, yet it is said
that the army was ready to put great pressure on the government, possibly by an uprising
of forces. However a simple man to man talk, between George Washington and the officers
involved, cleared the air. This situation demonstrates how powerful the national hero George Washington was.
|
 | 1785 The Land Ordinance for the Northwest Territory was passed by
Congress. |
 | 1785 When the sons and daughters of Bostons wealthy families
founded the Sans Souci Club, very much in the British way, it caused some concerns. Such
behavior upset the Sparta-style elite and people like Sam Adams who had hoped to do away
with excesses. Dancing, card-playing, drinking and the "so-called good life" and
fun without hard work did not fit with "puritan concepts". |
