| ***Franklin Pierce decided to enforce the Fugitive Slave Law. Suddenly
the job of bounty hunter became very lucrative. The prices for able bodied slaves were
high. Plantation owners gladly paid bounty hunters good money for any useable black they
brought. |
| Considering that blacks had no passports and no rights bounty hunter
could easily carry off any free black from the North and transport such to the South to
planters in need for labor. |
