	1807 December, Embargo Act was passed.
	Under the idea of "peaceable coercion" Jefferson tried to deal with the problems of a world at war. Congress passed the Embargo Act on December 2, 1807. Such was thought to protect American shipping by cutting all trade with the European nations. It turned into a true Jeffersonian nightmare, shipowners didn’t comply.
