Welcome
to U.S. history!
 | 1793 In February, Frances revolutionary government announced their
war "All people against all kings." |
 | The French Revolution like most revolution was against the leading
families and wealthy leadership and its basic idea of cleaning house, might have been a
good one. However once put in motion the people took over and leaderless bloody purges
were common. One radical group, the Jacobins, guillotined thousands of people during the
so-called Reign-of-Terror (October 1793 - July 1994). Such political violence stunned many
Americans, who had met and learned to love and respect the French over the years.
